not your girl

After his performance, the mysterious musician, Alex, left the keyboard and headed towards the exit. Lily’s heart raced, and before she knew it, she found herself following him.

“Excuse me,” she called out as he reached the door.

Alex turned to face her, his eyes curious. “Yes?”

“That…that was incredible,” Lily stammered, feeling her cheeks flush with embarrassment.

A warm smile spread across Alex’s face. “Thank you. I’m Alex.”

“I’m Lily,” she replied, still slightly flustered. “I work here. You’re really talented.”

Alex’s smile widened. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lily. I’m glad you enjoy the music. Would you like to join me for a cup of coffee tomorrow while I play? It’s always nice to have company.”

Lily hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “I’d like that.”

The following day, Lily sat over the counter as Alex began to play a soulful melody on the keyboard. She watched his fingers glide gracefully over the keys, each note carrying a depth of emotion that resonated within her. It was as though his music could unravel the hidden layers of her heart.

As the last note faded, Alex turned to Lily and asked, “What do you think? Did that one speak to your soul?”

Lily smiled warmly. “Absolutely. It was beautiful, Alex. Your music has a way of reaching deep inside.”

He chuckled. “That’s what music should do, right? Connect with people on a deeper level.”

Over the weeks that followed, Alex and Lily’s friendship blossomed. They met daily at the restaurant, and their conversations grew more intimate. They talked about their dreams, their pasts, and their fears, gradually peeling away the layers of their lives.

One sunny afternoon, as they sat at their usual table, Lily opened up about her love for books. “You know, when I’m not here or working, I’m usually lost in a good book. It’s my way of escaping reality sometimes.”

Alex leaned forward, intrigued. “Books can be magical. What are you reading now?”

Lily’s eyes lit up. “I’m reading ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho. It’s all about following your dreams and discovering your own ‘Personal Legend.’ It’s inspiring.”

Alex nodded. “I’ve heard of that book. It’s a classic. Have you found your ‘Personal Legend,’ Lily?”

She paused, her gaze fixed on a distant point. “I’m not sure, Alex. Sometimes, I feel like I’m stuck in this routine, and I’m not really living my life. But listening to your music, it’s like a reminder that there’s more out there.”

Alex reached across the table and placed his hand over Lily’s. “Lily, life is full of possibilities, and it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. You have to believe in yourself and take that first step.”

She looked into his eyes, finding comfort in his words. “Thank you, Alex. You always know how to make me feel better.”

As the days turned into weeks, Lily’s visits to the restaurant became the highlight of her day. She and Alex shared stories, laughter, and a growing sense of connection. It was as though they had known each other for a lifetime.

One evening, as they sat at their usual table, the sky outside darkened, and heavy raindrops splattered against the windowpane. Lily’s face showed concern as she glanced outside.

“I didn’t expect it to rain so heavily today,” she said, her voice laced with worry.

Alex followed her gaze. “Is it far to your place from here?”

Lily bit her lip. “Actually, my apartment is on the outskirts, and the road gets really muddy and difficult to navigate when it rains like this.”

Alex considered for a moment. “Well, you shouldn’t have to go through that. How about you stay at my place tonight? It’s not too far from here, and you won’t have to deal with the bad road.”

Lily hesitated, torn between gratitude and uncertainty. “Are you sure it’s not too much trouble, Alex?”

He smiled reassuringly. “Not at all, Lily. I wouldn’t want you to go through all that trouble just to get home. My place is cozy, and you’ll have a comfortable stay.”

After a moment of contemplation, Lily nodded gratefully. “Thank you, Alex. I appreciate your kindness.”

They left the restaurant and headed to Alex’s home. As they entered, Lily couldn’t help but be amazed by the elegance and opulence of his surroundings. The spacious living room was adorned with exquisite artwork, and the furniture spoke of luxury and comfort.

Alex led Lily to a guest bedroom where she could spend the night. “You can use this room, Lily. There’s a change of clothes in the closet if you’d like to freshen up.”

Lily smiled appreciatively. “Thank you again, Alex. I’ll be quick.”

As she changed into some of Alex’s clothes, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. It was as though she had stepped into a world so different from her own. She wandered around the room, taking in the tasteful decor and the air of sophistication that surrounded her.

As she approached the closet, she noticed a small box lying on the floor. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she bent down to pick it up. Just as she was about to open it, Alex entered the room, his expression tense.

He gently took the box from her hand, his eyes locking with hers. He managed a small smile and said, “It’s nothing, Lily. You should get some rest.”

Lily couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to the box than met the eye, but she decided not to press further. She crawled into bed, her mind filled with questions and a growing connection to the enigmatic Alex.

As she lay in the dimly lit room, she couldn’t help but wonder about the man who had entered her life like a melody, bringing with him a promise of something more—a promise that was both thrilling and mysterious.
