condemned without trial

Mrs. Robert entered her home that evening and discovered a white paper lying on the floor. Intrigued, she carefully unfolded it and began reading.

“To my dearest Mother,

It’s Stephanie. I came by to see you, but you were not home, so I had to leave this letter for you. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for treating me like your own daughter for the past eight years. You believed in me when everyone else thought I was a killer. Thank you for all the love and support throughout these years.

I have some shocking news to share. We have finally discovered the identity of Dad’s killer, and it turns out to be his sister, Aunt Tessa. The truth came to light through Kimberly’s camera, which inadvertently recorded the evidence eight years ago when she left it in the kitchen. I’m writing this letter because I might not return. Whether I come back alive or not, I am determined to confront Aunt Tessa and demand answers about why she killed our father and used me as bait. I deserve to know the truth.

I have also come to realize that I am different, a kind of monster with control over two bodies. I must pause writing now. In case I don’t return, please remember that I have always loved you, Mrs. Robert.

With love,

Stephanie”

Overwhelmed with concern, Mrs. Robert rushed out of her house and hurried to Stephanie’s home. She burst through the door, breathless, while Kimberly stepped outside to ensure no one was following them before closing the door.

“Good evening, Mrs. Robert. Is everything all right?” Kimberly asked.

“Where is Stephanie?” Mrs. Robert inquired urgently.

“She is in her room,” Elena replied.

Elena and Kimberly accompanied Mrs. Robert to Stephanie’s room. Mrs. Robert pushed the door open and found Stephanie lying beneath her duvet, her long hair cascading over her body.

“Stephanie!” Mrs. Robert exclaimed as she approached the bed. She touched Stephanie’s body and realized it was cold.

“Her body is cold,” Mrs. Robert said, her voice filled with despair.

“No, that can’t be possible. Stephanie ate just thirty minutes ago before you arrived at our house,” Kimberly protested.

Everyone tapped Stephanie, hoping to wake her up, while Elena checked her pulse. Sadly, she discovered Stephanie was no longer breathing. They immediately called an ambulance to transport her body. At the hospital, Stephanie was officially pronounced dead. The autopsy revealed no apparent cause of death.

Stephanie’s lifeless body was placed in the morgue, and they returned home together. Kimberly cried uncontrollably, unable to accept that Stephanie was gone forever. Mrs. Robert was in a state of shock, having lost both a dear friend and a daughter. Upon their return, Mrs. Robert requested a few moments alone in Stephanie’s room before going back home. Her request was granted, and the three of them sat on the floor, lost in their own thoughts.

Kimberly noticed a paper near the lampstand and picked it up. “Mom, Stephanie left this letter addressed to Elena and me,” she informed them.

“Please read it aloud,” Elena requested, wiping away her tears.

“I always knew this day would come, but I never expected it to arrive so soon. I knew we would eventually discover Dad’s killer, but it pains me that eight precious years of my life have already passed. I’ve always been aware of who I am—a combination of a monster and a human. I inherited this from Dad. I managed to find Tessa and confronted her about Dad’s murder and why I was used as bait. She revealed that both she and Dad were born with supernatural powers, but Dad chose to protect us rather than pursue dominance. Tessa was told that I would someday be the one to kill her. She murdered Dad because she wanted both of you to kill me, knowing how deeply Elena loved Dad. I took justice into my own hands and killed Tessa. She destroyed my life and deprived me of so much.

I made sure she suffered before I left her to die. It brings me some twisted satisfaction, but unfortunately, Elena, I can never call you ‘mother’ again. You played a part in this tragedy. You didn’t trust your own daughter and made her life miserable. Although I might have forgiven both of you, you will carry the burden of guilt forever. Please take care of Mrs. Robert for me. She saved my life, cared for me, and believed in me. In her, I found a new mother. I have one final request: bury me next to Dad. I want to tell him that I have avenged his death. I want to spend eternity with the father both of you denied me the chance to honor. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that my time is near. If I wake up and find myself alive, I will dispose of this letter. However, if I am found dead, please fulfill my last wish.

Goodbye, Elena. Goodbye, Kimberly.

Stephanie”

Mrs. Robert wept inconsolably, wishing she had discovered Stephanie’s letter earlier so she could have warned her against causing harm to anyone, knowing it would ultimately lead to her demise. Mrs. Robert realized that Stephanie was truly extraordinary. The weight of the situation became too much for Kimberly to bear, and she wept alongside Mrs. Robert.

“You must believe it now, both of you,” Mrs. Robert managed to say through her tears. “You played a role in her death. She pleaded her innocence every day, but you turned a deaf ear and subjected her to immense pain. Though she may have forgiven you, you will forever carry the pain and the stigma.”

Mrs. Robert glanced around Stephanie’s room one last time before departing, tears streaming down her face.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, but the pain of Stephanie’s loss lingered in the hearts of Mrs. Robert, Elena, and Kimberly. Each of them carried their own burden of guilt, regretting their actions and wishing they had listened to Stephanie’s pleas for understanding.

Mrs. Robert dedicated herself to preserving Stephanie’s memory and honoring her last wish. She tirelessly fought to have Stephanie buried next to her father, ensuring that she would find eternal peace by his side. The day of the burial arrived, and friends and family gathered to pay their respects to the young girl who had endured so much.

As the somber ceremony unfolded, Mrs. Robert stood before Stephanie’s grave, clutching a bouquet of white roses. Her eyes were filled with tears as she whispered her final goodbye to the daughter she had come to love.

    LETTER TO GOD

Dear God, Do you even hear me, or are you just reading like I’m another footnote in your plan? I’ve been screaming into the dark for months, and all I get is silence that presses harder than anything alive. I SEE YOU ANYWAY

They call her a monster. Not behind her back. Not with whispers. They say it plainly, like fact. Cold. Harsh. Heartless. The kind of woman who’d let the world burn as long as the fire kept her warm. But Rhea knows people. Knows them better than they know themselves. She sees the fault lines in […]

“You ever think about that night?” Marcus’s voice cut through the silence like glass. His breath hung in the air, cold and still, though they were inside. Deji didn’t look up.
