beneath my scars

Three days had passed since Ryan’s unexpected visit to Isabelle’s hotel room. He returned to his siblings, Gabriel and Tracy, carrying the weight of what he had learned. The moment he walked through the door, they enveloped him in a warm, relieved hug.

However, Ryan’s demeanor was far from celebratory. He couldn’t hold back the anger and frustration that had been festering within him for days. Without a word to his siblings, he brushed past them and headed straight for Kylian, his triplet brother.

Kylian, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, looked up with a mix of surprise and confusion as Ryan’s fist connected with his face. Gabriel and Tracy rushed forward, shocked by the sudden violence.

“Ryan, what the hell are you doing?” Gabriel demanded, holding his brother back.

Ryan’s eyes were ablaze with fury as he turned to Kylian. “Tell them, Kylian. Tell them what you did to Isabelle. Your sins are unpardonable.”

Kylian staggered to his feet, wiping blood from his lip. He met his siblings’ questioning gazes but remained silent, unwilling to reveal the truth.

Ryan’s voice rose with anger as he shouted, “Tell them, Kylian, or I will.”

Tears welled up in Tracy’s eyes as she pleaded, “Please, Kylian, just tell us.”

Kylian finally spoke, his voice quivering. “I’m sorry, okay? I messed up, but I’ve said sorry, and I’ll keep apologizing.”

Ryan’s patience had worn thin. He shouted, “Apologies won’t bring back what you took from Isabelle. It won’t undo the damage you caused.”

Gabriel, the peacemaker of the trio, stepped forward. “Ryan, calm down. Let Kylian explain.”

But Ryan was beyond reasoning. He needed the truth to come out, no matter the consequences. He bellowed, “Tell them how you mixed substances into Isabelle’s drink. Tell them how it killed her unborn child and damaged her womb. Tell them how you destroyed her chance of ever becoming a mother again!”

Tears streamed down Tracy’s face as she looked at her elder brother with a mixture of shock and disgust. She couldn’t contain her anger any longer and slapped Kylian hard across the face. “I hate you! Your sins are unpardonable!”

Kylian attempted to justify himself, stuttering, “I… I didn’t mean for any of that to happen. It was a mistake, a terrible mistake.”

Ryan’s voice was laced with bitterness as he cut Kylian off. “You can quit apologizing, Kylian. Isabelle gave in and she is free.”

Gabriel and Tracy exchanged incredulous glances. Gabriel spoke cautiously, “You’re joking, right? Isabelle forgave him?”

Ryan shook his head, a heavy sadness in his eyes. “No, I’m not joking. Isabelle has found her peace, but not in the way you might think.”

The room fell silent, a heavy pall settling over them. Ryan’s words hung in the air, and the truth slowly began to dawn on Gabriel and Tracy. They exchanged a horrified look as they realized what he meant.

Gabriel whispered, “Isabelle… she didn’t forgive him. She… she committed suicide.”

Tears welled up in Tracy’s eyes as she looked at her elder brother Kylian with a mixture of sorrow and anger. She couldn’t fathom the depth of pain Isabelle had endured, and the revelation shook them all to their core.

Kylian, overcome with guilt and remorse, collapsed to his knees, tears streaming down his face. The consequences of his actions had finally caught up with him, and he was left to grapple with the weight of a life lost and the unforgivable sins that had led to such a tragic outcome.

Ryan’s anger, once unleashed, seemed uncontainable. He turned to Gabriel, his twin brother, who had been suffering from his own hurt since the day his cherished guitar was shattered.

“You won’t get an apology for your broken guitar,” Ryan stated coldly, his voice devoid of sympathy. “You both don’t deserve any forgiveness.”

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed, and he clenched his fists. He had harbored resentment for months over his beloved guitar, and now it seemed like he might never receive the apology he longed for, all thanks to Kylian.

Turning to Kylian, Ryan’s words dripped with venom. “You can go ahead and marry Isabelle’s mom if you wanted her so badly. You and her planned what you did to Isabelle.”

Kylian, still on his knees, could hardly meet Ryan’s gaze. The weight of his actions pressed down on him, and Ryan’s words only added to the unbearable guilt he felt.

Ryan grabbed his bag and headed for the stairs, leaving Gabriel and Tracy behind in a room filled with the stench of betrayal. As he ascended the staircase, he couldn’t shake the feeling of disappointment, anger, and sadness that now colored his perception of his own family.

Gabriel and Tracy, left alone with Kylian, couldn’t contain their disgust any longer. Tracy’s face contorted with anger as she spat on Kylian, her voice filled with venom. “You’re a monster, Kylian. I hope you rot in your guilt for the rest of your life.”

Gabriel, his heart heavy with the knowledge of the terrible secrets that had torn their family apart, turned away from Kylian, unable to bear the sight of him any longer. He followed Ryan upstairs, hoping to find some solace away from the painful reality that now haunted their lives.
